How The Matter Studio documented three identical oceanfront villas in Muscat, capturing how distinct interior styles interact with Gulf of Oman coastal light.
One Architecture, Three Distinct Interior Worlds
Photographing a multi-dwelling architectural project presents a unique creative challenge: how do you capture three residences built on the exact same structural footprint, while making each feel entirely singular?
Located at the entrance of Al Mouj in Muscat as part of the Zunairah oceanfront enclave, these three luxury villas designed by Fine Lines Designers (led by Sangeeta Advani Mansharamani, Aashna Mansharamani, and Jigna Shivjiani) overlook the Gulf of Oman. While the exterior architecture is defined by horizontal lines, deep overhangs, and layered sea-facing terraces, the interior worlds diverge completely—each inspired by the female figure of the household.
For The Matter Studio, the objective was to document this dialogue between structural symmetry, interior personality, and intense coastal daylight.
1. Villa 675: Eclectic Classicism & Sculptural Ceilings
Villa 675 makes a confident statement from the moment you step into the double-height lobby.
Managing Overhead Reflections: With carved wooden ceilings wrapped in brass details and fluted marble backdrops, capturing the way natural light catches these polished elements required precise exposure control.
Flowing Continuity: We framed long, sweeping angles across Botticino marble floors to highlight the seamless transition between the social living spaces, the bar area with custom Glass Forest lighting, and the basement retreats.
2. Villa 674: Pop-Inspired Color & Vibrant Energy
In Villa 674, the atmosphere shifts completely as bold artwork, playful accents, and sculptural furniture take center stage.
Color Accuracy Under Coastal Sun: Highlighting bright neon seating, jungle-inspired terrace murals, and contemporary artwork required balancing strong direct sunlight filtering through expansive sea-facing windows without washing out vivid color palettes.
Indoor-Outdoor Framing: We focused on sightlines that connect the vibrant indoor living rooms directly to the poolside and private terrace decks.
3. Villa 673: Soft Minimalism & Coastal Calm
Villa 673 speaks in muted tones, focusing on tactile fabrics, walnut woodwork, and subtle blue accents that reflect the ocean outside.
Diffused Lighting Techniques: To showcase the calm, cocooned atmosphere of the reading corners, library, and master suites, we utilized soft ambient light framing to emphasize material textures like natural rugs, Molteni armchairs, and warm wood finishes.
Architectural Sightlines: Capturing the double-height void and quiet library area allowed us to emphasize spatial depth while keeping the background focused on the Gulf horizon.
4. Capturing the Coastal Setting of Muscat
Across all three villas, the defining photographic thread is their relationship with the surrounding terrain and sea.
"Located at the threshold of Al Mouj, the project had to create a strong first impression while still feeling deeply connected to the surrounding seascape."
By focusing on deep architectural overhangs, poolside reflections, and double-height lobbies opening directly toward the Gulf of Oman, The Matter Studio produced a unified visual story that honors both the shared architecture and the distinct individualities within.
